A review of a manufacturer’s operating and financial processes, as the groundwork for its restructuring.
01 / 03The challenge
A company facing a restructuring needs, before anything else, to know what its work actually costs. Here the cost of a job depended on materials, machine hours, labour, energy and set-up, but no shared model existed: every quote depended on whoever prepared it, and the margin only emerged once the job was done.
02 / 03What we did
We mapped departments, processes and governance, and put the interventions in order of priority. Then we built the tools that hold the review up in everyday work: an explicit cost model, a quoting system with an archive and analytics, and a job sheet designed to be filled in by hand on the shop floor.
03 / 03The outcome
Delivered: the executive summary of the engagement, the quoting system and the production job sheet. From here the margin on a job is visible before it is accepted, not after. The cloud version of the quoting system is being deployed; the organisational work continues.
