01 / 03The challenge
When an investigation runs into crypto-assets, the path from seizure to custody and then conversion looks nothing like that of a physical asset: keys to secure, chains that behave differently, market timing that does not wait, traceability to be demonstrated after the fact. The rules exist; what is usually missing is someone who holds the whole path together and answers for the result. And the first person to meet a wallet is not the analyst: it is the unit carrying out the search.
02 / 03What we did
NOK works alongside law enforcement, the judiciary and public institutions across the whole cycle — seizure, custody, conversion — within the framework of Italy’s Fondo Unico Giustizia, on a mandate from a crypto-asset exchange. Alongside operations there is a training programme on tokenised assets, built to be understood by people working in the field and not only by specialist units: what you are looking at, what you may touch, what goes on the record and in what order.
03 / 03The outcome
Training has reached national scale across one specialist branch and is extending to operational units, the ones carrying out inspections and searches. Support on procedure continues, with further institutional engagements scheduled.
